I recently took my cat to a vet, (he was getting DECLAWED!!!) and the vet noticed some acne on his chin. they told to wash his face once in a while with Dawn dish soap, however did not provide any other information about it to me? How long should I clean it. Is there anything else I should do instead? How can I get rid of feline acne? What causes it so I can prevent it next time? Is it dangerous?
Use witch hazel, is it an astringent (drying agent). Just put a LITTLE on a cotton ball and rub it on the acne. Hormones or diet is probably the reason for the skin condition. It is not dangerous.
Witch Hazel can be found in most drug stores and is very cheap, $2 for a large bottle.
I have owned cats for 40 years and I am also a biologist. How can I get rid of feline acne? What causes it so I can prevent it next time? Is it dangerous?

I have a few cats but am not well versed in this so despite any of the suggestions in the articles I would suggest calling the vet and asking before you do anything too drastic and start giving vitamin supplements or anything. That little bit about switching plastic bowls to ceramic was a good thought though.
Wash its face every night anfer eating sugary foods.
You can clean the acne with some hydrogen peroxide. The other answer is correct in that if you are using plastic bowls, switch to metal or ceramic instead.
